Only Through Shadows jewellery is handmade by designer/maker Artemis, at our studio in England, UK. We use only solid gold and silver, and traditional techniques, with recycled metals and responsibly sourced stones.

Artemis Russell, originally from the Isle of Wight, studied at Camberwell College of Art in London before going on to obtain a degree in Fine Art at Falmouth College of Art in Cornwall in 2001.

Focusing on photography and video installation, which has been a long standing interest, she then returned to London, where she eventually found jewellery making suited her other passion for making small and intricate things. She learnt silver and goldsmithing whilst working from a manufacturing workshop in London’s jewellery quarter, Hatton Garden in 2003.

She began making her first women’s jewellery collection for a UK brand in 2007 and exhibiting at Paris Fashion Week - Tranoi accessories shows, supplying to international department stores and boutiques.

Specialising in delicate designs and wax carving, she also co-designed the diamond ring and wedding ring range for over ten years before setting up her own company - ‘Only Through Shadows’ based at her home studio on the Isle of Wight in 2020. She is a mum of a two and has a dog called Otter.

‘I love to make everyday jewellery that is easy to wear with anything, and which has been made in such a way as to be mindful and respectful of our planet’.

‘Jewellery should also be fun and captivating, so my children’s opinions about my designs and imagery are crucial’.

‘My studio is surrounded by the sea, woods and downs, on the most rural western tip of the Isle of Wight…so I am never in short supply of inspiration’.
